DISTRICT 41 RECOGNIZED FOR FINANCIAL REPORTING
Posted July 30, 2008

For the third time in recent years, School District 41 has received the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Association of School Business Officials (ASBO). The award, received for the district's 2007 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR), reflects the district's commitment to the highest standards of financial reporting. The CAFR is available for public review at any District 41 building and is posted on www.d41.org. It is the district's official annual report and contains introductory information, schedules necessary to demonstrate compliance with finance-related legal and contractual provisions, and statistical data to help the public understand the financial aspect of district operations. Preparation of a CAFR is voluntary, and the purpose of the award is to encourage school districts to commit to providing the highest quality financial reporting. According to ASBO, creation of a CAFR measures the integrity and technical competence of the business staff, helps strengthen the presentation for bond issuance statements, and validates the credibility of the district's operations. The CAFR is just one way that District 41 provides financial information to the public; the district conducts annual public hearings in compliance with the law on the budget and tax levy, and posts the budget and tax levy as well as related presentations on www.d41.org. Financial information such as monthly revenue and expenditure reports are included in the regular Board of Education packets that are also posted online prior to each meeting. District 41 serves students from Pre-kindergarten through eighth grade living in parts of Carol Stream, Glendale Heights, Glen Ellyn, Lombard and Wheaton.
